Developed in India, by Dr. Madan Kataria, and his wife Madhuri, (a yoga teacher), this practice of Laughter-as-Exercise combines yogic breathing and easy stretches and voluntary laughter techniques. Even if the laughter at first seems ‘deliberate’, it quickly becomes genuine and heartfelt and participants interact with one another.

Laughter can improve your health, with both both preventative and therapeutic effects. Research projects since the 1970’s have demonstrated the potential benefits of laughter:

  • Relieves stress, reduces anxiety and depression
  • Enhances the immune system
  • Improves respiratory and cardiovascular functioning
  • Relieves Pain, Boosts endorphins
  • Benefits digestion, elimination, sleep
  • Encourages relaxation, enhances creativity
